So the day came, and went. Barbara the cock-a-doodle-doodling cockerel has gone back to the breeder. The breeder breeds absolutely first class and show winning birds, and she said that he was a pretty perfect example of a Light Sussex cockerel. She had mentioned that she might rehome him with friends but she seemed pretty keen on keeping him for herself.
Margot and Mrs.Weaver were a bit miffed and upset at the relocation of their boyfriend. But they seem quite content now, making gentle cooing and clucking noises.

ReplyDeleteI started off with ten chicks, hoping I would get at least 4-6 hens. As it turned out, eight were hens. I gave away two hens and one rooster. Then, a home was found for two more hens and a rooster. My 10'x10' pen became really quiet when the last rooster left. Of course, I went from ten to four chickens. But, the roosters were so aggressive in getting food and the whole place was just loud. My two roosters had not started to crow yet. It was sort of sad to see all my babies I raised from one day old leave. But, it was for the best.

I have lots of roosters. I seldom even notice when they crow anymore.
